ISO 50001 Energy Management System

The purpose of an energy management system (EnMS) is to enable organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption. Implementing an EnMS is intended to lead to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts and energy cost through systematic management of energy. ISO 50001 requires organization to establish an energy policy, objectives, targets, and action plans which take into account legal requirements and information related to significant energy use. In essence, it consists of the following clauses,

Compatibility

Based on the Deming PDCA (Plan-do-check-it) cycle, ISO 50001 has the same basic structure as other international management system standards such as ISO 14001 or ISO 9001. How to Proceed?

Perform a gap analysis to determine the status of the organization compared to the certification requirements.
